I’m trying to understand how anyone could argue the video quality is nothing but superb. And 85% of a television’s overall rating/quality should come down to its picture. We purchased this TV on August 20th and received it today. The setup was easy, albeit as expected, it did not come w/ an HDMI cable.

I bought the TV for my parents at their house, and I currently have 2 Samsungs and 1 LG: (i) a 58 in Plasma purchased 1-year ago; (ii) a 46 LCD purchased 2-years ago; and (iii) a 42 in LG LCD purchased 1-year ago. While those tv’s are solid, this LED is hand’s down far superior. Just makes me wonder where we’ll be in 5-years in terms of technology.

As a few have mentioned, the Audio is not the best sound you’ve heard. As TV’s become slimmer, more compact, and economical, the emphasis is placed on video quality over audio quality. For my parents, the audio is perfectly sufficient – even for NFL games, movies, etc. If you’re a movie fanatic or total sports enthusiast, you’ll probably want to upgrade the audio, but it’s not worth giving this TV 4-stars on Amazon’s rating system. Just recognize the audio is perfectly fine more most uses.

I am not an expert, but to get this high-quality LED for ,799 (Costco currently has it at ,099), it’s a solid value. I do TV research about every 6-months, and can objectively say that over the last 2.5 years, it’s difficult to argue there is any other company better than Samsung in terms of overall HDTV value.

Bought it to watch world cup. It’s an upgrade from my 32 inches sony bravia 720p. The TV is thin (looks fragile). It’s easy to set up the picture quality. Sound is ok. Overall, it’s a good buy for under 00 LED tv.

I was not in the market to buy a TV until my 46″ Vizio died last week. I couldn’t beat the price vs features so I thought I would give it a try, although I was a little concerned in regards to the shine through on black that several of the reviews mentioned. I love this TV, although it was a bit eerie at first considering the picture was so sharp it looked like people were standing in room with you. The down side is that the picture is so sharp that in some programs filmed in HD it is easy to pick out what was filmed on set, sets look like sets. Even non HD programming comes through with amazing quality. I found that adjusting the settings takes care of much of the cloudy black that people have complained of, but in truth I rarely watch programming in a dark room so it really doesn’t apply to me. This is a great television and the price is amazing.

I just got the tv yesterday from Sears; actually a floor model and hence the price was less than usual. Definitely an improvement from the behemoth Toshiba that I had. I did do some research prior to purchasing and this is what I found.

Overall everyone seems to like the pic quality. Sony is the closest competitor; if you manage to set the pic correctly there should not be any difference. Switching to satellite from cable supposedly improves pic quality. Since I bought it just yesterday, I cannot say a lot about my experience – the pic is truly great.

However, some also complained about the bad Samsung customer service. Moreover, the bulb needs to be changed every 8000-10000 viewing hours and one can probably do it (according to the manual) without calling the service personnel. The bulb costs around 0. Some customers had a bad experience with the bulb within the first few months of its operation.

Overall, I tend to have no regrets about the purchase and really looking forward to the experience. If something goes awry, I will let you folks know.

Do not buy Samsung – William D. Turnipseed –
I purchased a Samsung television about eighteen months ago. Two weeks ago the picture became all distorted. Since my television warranty was through Circuit City I had no choice but to call a television repair person out to look at it. As soon as he walked in the door he knew what the issue was. He told me that the part would cost almost as much as the television and that his recommendation was to throw away the television and purchase another one. After doing some research I discovered that there were quite a few Samsung televisions that were going out and that the parts were on backorder for about a month. Samsung was also not helpful. I trying to discuss this with SamsungTweets on Twitter, but he blocked me when I asked why nobody called me like he said they would. The only other answer I got from Samsung was that I needed to take it to a service center; this is after I told them that a television repair person had looked at it. From what I can tell from looking on television repair forums, Samsung televisions look to be pretty flakey.

Poorly designed – Worksux –
If you want a trouble free set stay away from Samsung. These units have a color wheel, 3 fans and a 250 dollar lamp that need to be replaced periodically.

I was a bit concerned when I compared the lamp that came out of the TV with this one and the new one was about 30% smaller. I went ahead and installed it anyway and it fit and is as bright as the original. I couldn’t beat the price either.

The new lamp did not totally solve the problem. Maybe our tv needs to be replaced. Hard to rate this item because I am not sure if the problem persists because of the replacement lamp or the tv itself.

Otherwise either go bigger (such as a 1080p projector) or just get a higher contrast 720p display. That said…

Still wowed at how good the new LCDs are. A year or two with an Olevia 37″ I thought was great compared at home with this new Vizio 37″ 1080P downstairs: Damn. All I had to do was put everything in the middle setting, sharpness on 5 (out of 7), turn off all the processing and features, and put the backlight at about 10-20 to get the whites bright enough, or higher for brighter rooms. And the in-content blacks are still inky. It renders the entire contrast and color range faithfully except for a little laziness in the middle of the dynamic range curve that can seem “smoky” on some older video mastering jobs (you truly need CRT, Plasma, or exotics to get it perfect). And it doesn’t have to be excruciatingly bright like the Olevias. That 237t-t12 even at it’s lowest of three crude backlight settings still is kind of blinding in bright scenes, and I have the Brightness down to the point at which the blacks do not get blacker but I can still barely see the foot of the contrast curve.

That continuously adjustable backlight on the new screens is essential. Combined with better real native (not the dynamic software) contrast, and I am floored. And it was 0 cheaper than the Olevia originally! The only thing I’m troubled with is the promotion of this dynamic contrast mode so much in an effort to compete with Plasmas. I think the contrast really is getting good enough on these 37″ LCDs that it doesn’t need to hide it. Again, there’s still obviously room for improvement as Dark City and the Fifth Element still aren’t quite filmy yet in their gorgeous contrast rendition on any LCD I’ve seen yet, but it’s getting there. At a higher cost, the newest multi-LED-based screens allow even more control over the backlight, but the only time I see any non-uniformity is on a completely blank, black screen with a very slight flashlight effect in the upper right. Much less than the 237t-t12. Now I must start worrying about upgrading the computer to have the horsepower to get one of these for my upstairs system! X-Plane or Blackshark in 1080P just isn’t going to happen on a P4.

Great until it breaks (google “Vizio black screen of death”) – sce –
TV was great until the display suddenly quit working (out of warranty, of course). Remote works, sound works, but no picture. Try Googling “Vizio black screen of death” before you purchase this or any Vizio TV.

Set Failed 11 months After Purchase – OK –
The set worked fine while it worked. When it failed 11 months in, I contacted Vizio Customer Service to see what we needed to do to resolve the problem. I won’t go into detail on the problem here, as I understand that electronics can and do fail. The main issue I have is with Vizio’s customer service. I provided a detailed email (pictures included) describing the problem with the picture. Had to call them no less than 5 times, and each time it was as if they had no prior information. I had to refer their techs to the email, line by line. Email described the problem in detail as well as the steps I had taken in an effort to resolve them. I fully believe the failure of this set after 11 months of use is an exception. If the company had provided even marginally satisfactory customer service, I would likely buy Vizio again down the road, but now that I have been exposed to their CSR’s and Techs, and their cumbersome procedures, I will not purchase, or recommend their products. They weren’t even close to meeting my expectations of reasonable cuatomer service. Probably a good product, but a bad choice if you need service support.

I don’t get cable so there are only a few stations that I can get with an antenna. As soon as I hooked up my new one I got 3 more channels. Now I can channel surf instead of doggy paddle!

This antenna did not work for me and live in a high rise apartment building in the middle of the city. I was able to receive 2 channels out of more than 20. Skip it unless you can hang this thing out the window.

Other reviewers are right, the thing is flimsy. With the ears fully extended, it tips over. It tips over when you adjust the ears. You have to adjust the ears for every station. Had to turn the gain all the way up to get anything.

Take a pass.

Your Milage May Vary – William J. Plenge –
First off keep in mind the area you live in can greatly effect how well your antenna works. That being said this one didn’t work well for me at all. I was using a cheap pair of rabbit ears and pulling in 16 stations. 4 of them were a little weak so would break up and be annoying to watch so I decided to try an amplified antenna designed after the digital swap over. This one looks pretty cool and sets up easy. The stand could’ve been a bit better, with the antennas fully extended it seems a bit too prone to tipping. Once it was installed I did a new channel scan excpeting to gain some strength on the weak stations. Imagine my surprise when the scan was completed I had 6 stations and all of them were breaking up. That’s 10 fewer stations then I had with the cheap rabbit ears. I’ll be returning this tomorrow. It may be a good unit, but in my area/building it simply doesn’t do the job.

We’ve only had this TV for a day, and we don’t have our High Definition Cable service yet, but the picture is still really good. My husband says it will be even better when we get HD channels (our new service is on the way).

The colors are great and I love the fact that there is no glare on the picture. We were going to get another TV with a few more features, but the picture had such a glare on it, we changed our minds.

I will say though for anyone buying this TV at this price – think twice – we honestly only paid 8 for this exact TV at Samsclub. We just got it today, August 25th, 2010, so I think this price on Amazon is horrible – more than twice what we paid.

The TV is very stylish and easy to set up too. If you decide on this one, and buy it somewhere cheaper, I think you’ll love it.
